Meet Mr. Leites

A native of St. Augustine, FL, Mr. Joseph Leites is an international musician and conductor who proudly serves as the Director of Bands at Satellite High School. Previously, Mr. Leites served as a Graduate Teaching Associate at the University of Louisville, assisting in direction of the university bands from 2021 to 2023 and earning his Master of Music with a concentration in Instrumental Conducting. He earned his Bachelor of Music Education at the University of Florida in 2021. His primary conducting teachers have been Frederick Speck, Amy Acklin and Jason Cumberledge at UofL, and Jay Watkins, Chip Birkner, David Waybright and Barry Hartz at UF. Mr. Leites has performed with the UofL Wind Ensemble at the 2022 World Association for Symphonic Bands and Ensembles Conference in Prague, Czech Republic, and with the UofL Symphonic Band at the 2023 Kentucky Music Educators Association Professional Conference. Mr. Leites has publications in the National Band Association Journal and KMEA Bluegrass Music News, and holds membership with the Kentucky Music Educators Association, Florida Music Educators Association, National Association for Music Education, and Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia.

Aside from his time in the band room, Mr. Leites enjoys intently following college (Go Gators, Go Cards!!) and professional sports. He also enjoys an active lifestyle, playing golf, beach volleyball, and maintaining an avid fitness routine. Mr. Leites also enjoys traveling and spending time with his extended family at home in St. Augustine.
