Christopher Simons is the Director of Orchestras at Satellite High school where is the primary conductor of five orchestral classes including the flagship Symphony Orchestra and the elite-level Chamber Orchestra in addition to the Sinfonia, Philharmonic, and Concert Orchestras. He also teaches the Satellite High School Jazz Ensemble and AP Music Theory. During his time at Satellite, Mr. Simons has overseen the growth and development of the Orchestra program by nearly tripling the amount of students enrolled in Orchestra classes, increasing participation in Solo and Ensemble to over 200 student entries per year, and achieving regular Superior ratings at annual Music Performance Assessments with multiple ensembles. In addition, Mr. Simons has performed with groups at multiple national Music Festivals including the ASTA in 2018, 2020, 2022, and 2024 and Music for All in 2015 and 2024.
Mr. Simons holds a Bachelor's Degree in Music Education with an instrumental focus from Florida State University where he graduated with Magna Cum Laude honors. He studied privately on euphonium with Professor Paul Ebbers. While attending FSU, Mr. Simons was a performing member of the graduate-level Wind Ensemble under the baton of Professor Richard Clary. He also performed on tour with the Symphonic Band directed by Patrick Dunnigan and the Concert Band under Dr. Bentley Shellahammer and Dr. David Plack.
Mr. Simons began his teaching career as the Director of Bands at Ormond Beach Middle School in Volusia County where he was a finalist for the Volusia county “New Teacher of the Year” award. Prior to his appointment at Satellite High School, Mr. Simons was the Director of Bands at Osceola Middle School in Pinellas County. During his time at these schools, he was praised for efforts in re-establishing a standard of superior performance at both Concert Music Performance Assessment and Solo and Ensemble.
In addition to his duties at Satellite, Christopher Simons teaches privately on Euphonium and Tuba and serves as a clinician in low brass technique and performance. He has been a performer with the Brass Band of Central Florida, the Space Coast Symphony Wind Ensemble and the Space Coast Symphony Orchestra in addition to performing as a soloist at the Kravis Center for the Performing Arts. He has served as a substitute conductor for the Melbourne Community Orchestra and as a guest conductor for the Space Coast Symphony Wind Ensemble.
